History of Madhya Pradesh

The history of Madhya Pradesh has roots from The legendary Emperor Vikramaditya (termed as Chakravarti Samrat), Ruler of Ujjaini (now known as Ujjain). He was known for his courage, bravery, justice and generosity towards the peoples of his kingdom. He was Great Devotee of Mahakaal (Lord Shiva). The Vikramaditya began the Vikram Savant.

Coming to period of Maurya Era, The Ashok resided in Ujjain as governor (Prantpaal), before vecoming the great Mauryan ruler. The major part of Central India established by the Gupta Empire (300-550 AD). In the first half of the seventh century, it was part of domains of the emperor Harsha. The close of the tenth century was a period of confusion for the Madhya Pradesh state.

 In the starting of the eleventh century, the muslims entered in the central India, First Mahmud of Ghazni & then Mohammad Gori who acquire few parts with Sultanate of Delhi.

It also formed part of the mughal empire with the rise of Maratha’s. Till the death of Madhoji Scindia in 1794, the Marathas ruled with all pride in Central India, but after that independent & smaller states came into being. The smaller states was a way for the British rulers who came and rule entire India. Madhya Pradesh Some great women rulers like Rani Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore, Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, Gond queen Rani Kamla devi & Rani Durgawati.

When India became independent in 1947, the British Indian province of Central Provinces and Berar formed Madhya Pradesh on 1st November, 1956. Boundary changes followed; the state of Chhattisgarh was drafted out of Madhya Pradesh region in year 2000.

Rulers of Madhya Pradesh

Following are the greatest and famous rulers and dynasties who ruled over Madhya Pradesh

Gupta Empire (300 to 510 A.D.).  This period is known as the Golden Age and some of the most famous works of art in India date back to it. The earliest of the famous paintings in the Caves of Bagh were executed during the Gupta period.

Tsang’s memoirs are a valuable source of Indian history. Harsha was a great warrior and defeated the Huns. He could put into the field 60000 war elephants and 100000 cavalry. But he was even more famed for his charity. Every five years, related Hiuen Tsang, the Great Emperor used to distribute among the poor all the treasures accumulated by him

Raja Bhoja (1018-1060 AD.) was the greatest monarch of the Paramar dynasty and also ancestor of Samrat Vikramaditya. This great patron of art and literate is credited with the authorship of works on astronomy and architecture.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, carried his direction and rulership into Central India. The Marathas obtained  sovereignty over the territory between the Chambal and the Narmada rivers. The whole of Central India soon was control of the Marathas.

Wildlife Sanctuaries

Kanha National Park – Barasingha

Kanha National Park is the largest national park of Madhya Pradesh and one of the tiger reserves of India. The park covers an area of 940 km2 and has significant population of Indian wild dog,sloth bear, barasingha,Indian leopards and Bengal tiger.

Bandhavgarh National Park – Tiger

Bandhavgarh National Park is located in the Umaria and has a large biodiversity. The park has the largest breeding population of leopards and one of the highest known density of the tiger population in all over India.

Pench National Park – Bengal Tiger

Pench National Park of Seoni and Chhindwara districts is the most promising location in Madhya Pradesh for tiger safari. An 11 year old Royal Bengal tigress named Collar Wali is a famous tigress who gave birth to 22 cubs since 2008, The park is rich in bird life too.

Satpura National Park – Satpura National Park is the highland ecosystem in the central India along with the adjoining Bori and Pachmarhi wildlife sanctuaries. The park has very rich in biodiversity and home to about 10 Bengal tigers and Indian leopard.
